Hockey Development

Hockey Development

Hockey is the only team sport offered by the Glasgow School of Sport and is available for both boys and girls.

The programme aims to develop the vital technical, tactical, psychological and physiological skills of selected pupils and operates in conjunction with clubs, Districts and Scottish Hockey Union International age group squads to deliver an appropriate training and competition pathway for youngsters.

Image of Wei AdamsTraining sessions are highly specialised and tailored to meet individual needs through a holistic coaching approach. This means the best possible programmes are delivered to every athlete. This involves exposure not only to hockey, but also to the wider components of elite performance including, Strength and Conditioning, Sport Psychology, Nutrition, and Sport Education.

Pupil progress is monitored continuously through heart rate testing, completion of training diaries and periodic fitness testing, so there really is no excuse not to fulfill your potential.

So if you think you’ve got what it takes to be a top hockey star, then come on, we’re waiting on you!

The Winning Game

Hockey pupils at the Glasgow School of Sport have been involved in a pilot study gauging the usefulness of a computer simulation (developed by the Scottish Institute of Sport Foundation) in assisting their development. Susan Ahrens - High Performance Hockey Coach explains what it is all about at our Winning Game page.
