Thanks to close working links with the Scottish Institute of Sport Foundation, pupils have benefited from being involved in their innovative Winning Game project. The idea of Winning Guru Yehuda Shinar, the game is aimed at introducing the Winning Concept and developing winning skills through simply playing the computer game.

Hockey pupils have been part of a national trial, testing the game in order to assist with its development and evaluate its effectiveness. In doing so, hockey pupils have benefited from learning how to be winners and how to think correctly under pressure which is at the heart of the Winning Concept.

Playing the game online twice a week has proved a fun experience for the pupils who have been able to play each other competitively as well working at their own rate through the game tutorials in order to learn more about how to win.

It has been about more than just fun though as S4 pupil and Scotland Under 16 International player Jay Cheyne said “Learning about the T-CUPs and how to win has really helped my hockey and I can see links between the game and my hockey.”

The future is for the new Winning Game, which will incorporate the feedback from the hockey pupils and the others who took part in the trial (due to be launched in September 2008), to become a central part of the Hockey Programme for all pupils in the coming year. As the benefits of developing winning habits are wider than just sport, it is also the intention for all pupils at Bellahouston Academy to take part in the game.

Well done to all the hockey pupils who participated and who are now well on their way to become WINNERS!
