Scottish National Age Group Championships - Tollcross Leisure Centre
An impressive medal haul was achieved at the Scottish National Age Group Championships with swimmers from the Glasgow School of Sport enjoying success at the recent championships held at Tollcross Leisure Centre between the 8th and 11th April 2010.
The highlights were David Morgan becoming Scottish Age Group Champion in both the 100 metres and 200 metres Butterfly events. David posted new personal best times in both events taking the Gold medal in the 200 metres and silver medal in the 100 metres. He also took the bronze medal in the 800 metres freestyle.
Mark Deans took the silver medal in both the 800 metres and 1500 metres freestyle with fellow School of Sport swimmer Callum Baxter finishing in the bronze medal position in the 1500 metres.
Jamie Graham secured the silver medal in the 100 metres breaststroke while Megan Donnelly took bronze in the 800 metres freestyle.
All in all the swimmers from the School put in an impressive display finishing in the top ten in twenty one events.

In the Scottish domestic season Mark won almost all that was available to him in at junior level and is contesting the senior medals. He is the Scottish Junior Champion at both 5 kilometres and 2 kilometres and was a close second place in the Senior 5 kilometre event. He was also the winner of the junior events at the East, West and North District Championships. Those combined efforts meant that he was a clear winner of the Junior Grand Prix.

Mark Deans Receives Scottish Swimming Awards
The Scottish Swimming Awards Dinner was held on Saturday 27 February 2010 at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel with over 200 people representing all aquatic disciplines attending.
Out of the twelve awards presented on Saturday night, two of the awards where won by COGST swimmer Mark Deans, an outstanding achievement!

In the Scottish domestic season Mark won almost all that was available to him in at junior level and is contesting the senior medals. He is the Scottish Junior Champion at both 5 kilometres and 2 kilometres and was a close second place in the Senior 5 kilometre event. He was also the winner of the junior events at the East, West and North District Championships. Those combined efforts meant that he was a clear winner of the Junior Grand Prix.
Mark also achieved at events in England, firstly winning the Senior ASA Midland Region 5 kilometre championships before taking the Silver medal at the 13-14 years old category of the ASA Championships where he was within half a second of winning.
Mark competed in seven rounds of the French Open Water Cup in 2009 during three separate tours. The first two of these was as part of the British Open Water Swimming Squad which competed in two events including the French 5 kilometre Championships. In both these events he was the fastest swimmer in his category.
Mark was a member of the Scottish Development Squad which completed at three venues. Mark returned with trophies from all three of his events ranging from 1.5 kilometres to 10 kilometres including a win in his age category over 5 kilometres.
At the end of the season and as a result of his achievements to that point, Mark gained selection as a member of the Scottish senior team to compete in the final two French Cup events. Following a strong performance at 5 kilometres, where he was the winner in his age category, Mark went on to win the silver medal in the senior 10 kilometres event against good French opposition and finished ahead of the more senior members of the Scottish team.
The awards Mark received are as follows:
- The Eian Prentice Memorial Award for outstanding performance in open water events for a junior athlete
- The Dennis Sullivan Memorial Trophy for outstanding performances in open water events
These awards were in recognition of Marks achievements, hard work and dedication to his sport
