International links - Australian Hockey Exchange
Kristine Ayling, Amy Gibson and Lauren Grant had a fantastic time during their hockey exchange to Australia. Pupils and staff at the Glasgow School of Sport and Bellahouston Academy enjoyed a video diary of their time in Perth, Western Australia. The girls trained with hockey specialists at Como every day and in their spare time enjoyed some traditional Ozzie pursuits of watching Ozzie Rules, wakeboarding, yachting, sunbathing and barbies. They said it was "awesome."

Kenny Wins First Senior Cap!
Kenny Bain is again in the GSOS headlines after receiving his first senior call up this month. Still only 16, Kenny was called into the Scotland Squad for their trip to Egypt to play in a FIH 4 Nations tournament.
Not only did Kenny do exceptionally well, indeed the team won gold, but he also managed to do plenty of supervised study when he was there to ensure his results in the May exams are up to the same high standard as his play!

Kenny Wins Youth Olympic Silver Medal
Kenny Bain, our S5 pupil from Paisley has been lucky enough to have been in Sydney, Australia for the last month competing for GB in the Youth Olympic Games. The 16 year old forward was selected for the squad after a series of intensive trials in England. Kenny is a proven goal scorer, something of a rarity and has shown impressive goal scoring form for his club, current Scottish Champions Kelburne and for Scotland U18 and U21 teams over the past 2 years.
After a fortnight’s build up and training matches against Institute of Sport sides, the GB men played 4 International matches in the tournament itself, narrowly missing the gold after losing out to hosts Australia in the final.
Congratulations to Kenny from all his GSOS colleagues and coaches.
Taeke Taekema Visits GSOS
Dutch hockey star Taeke Taekema, widely acknowledged as one of the best in the world visited GSOS recently. Taeke, over in Scotland to get his legendary drag flick biomechanically analysed, dropped into GSOS to show off his skills and lead a coaching session. His visit was a huge lift to all the hockey stars at the school who took advantage of his presence to ensure they got a treasured autograph and picture. As first year pupil Michael O’Donovan summed up “He’s amazing and it was so cool to meet him.”
