Ten Quick Questions On Delhi by Ryan McKee
Ryan in action |
Ryan somersaulting |
What 5 words would you use to describe Delhi?
Different – fun – exciting - lively and loud!
What was your most exciting experience performing?
My first floor performance I thought thank god I got through it! The second time I performed it I did it perfectly.
W hat did you learn about yourself?
When I really focus and do my best it can come together on the day.
What was your scariest moment?
When I was just about to step up for my first piece - Parallel Bars.
Most frustrating?
It has to be my vault. I slipped on the spring board and landed on my face. I had being doing it perfectly in training. It was really embarrassing as well as frustrating!
What performance of the games impressed you the most?
I never expected any of the gymnasts from India to do well and they walked away with two silver medals.
In what way has the Glasgow School of Sport helped you get to the games?
It provided lots of extra training and different coaches with different perspectives. The financial support has really helped too.
What message would you give to other aspiring Glasgow School of Sport pupils?
Stick in, listen to the coaches, train your hardest and you will get the best outcome.
What's the focus for you now in your sport?
Do well in the British and go to 2014 and win some medals.
Lasting memory?
Walking out into the hall for the finals and seeing the crowd. I could hear my family and friends cheering and I thought this is it!

June 2008 - Glasgow to Rostov-on-Don Fundraising Display
Following the successful visit of coaches and gymnasts from the Olympic Reserve School in Rostov-on-Don to Glasgow in May 2008 preparations are now underway for a reciprocal visit to Russia by a party from the Glasgow School of Sport and the City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club. To facilitate this visit much needed funds are sought.

To get the fund-raising off the ground, Philippa Musikant built on the connection made with the Borders Store at Glasgow Fort and arranged for the gymnasts involved in the exchange, together with other gymnasts from the Glasgow School of Sport and the City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club, to take part in a fund-raising display.
Saturday 28 June 2008 was a typical Glasgow day. It was raining! With the mini-bus full from floor to ceiling with equipment and buckets in tow, we set off for a lunch-time start at Glasgow Fort. As we arrived the skies cleared and the area was set up for action. Working in rotation, the gymnasts, some of the best in Scotland, showed off their gymnastics skills and their ability to work together as a team, to entertain the crowd, to speak to the public about the fund-raising and ultimately to bring in money.
Over £400 was raised in just 3 hours with just one interruption from the rain! A great day was had by all and an outstanding result for the exchange programme that we will definitely repeat.
Grateful thanks go to all the gymnasts, especially those not directly benefitting from the funds raised, their parents for giving up their afternoon and helping load up the van in the pouring rain and, of course, to Philippa Musikant and John Hill.
